“Wanderlust….A great desire to travel and rove about.”
That’s me. Plain and simple. Sitting in one spot for too long feels like a waste, like I’m missing out on something, or life is flying by too quickly so I better get up and do something. Anything. It drives my husband crazy but over the years he’s adapted and I’d like to think has happily joined in on my need to wander. So when, a couple of years ago, we started talking about doing something crazy like making a move to Asheville, North Carolina, it eventually came together. There was lots of planning, research and convincing ourselves that it was the right thing to do. And now that’s it’s done, there’s no looking back and we love it!
Asheville is an amazing city! It’s the perfect combination of beautiful scenery, pleasant climate, outdoor activities and last but in no way the least…”weirdness” to make it feel exactly like home. I was meant to live here!
And the kids, for the most part, have embraced it. It was difficult at first, for them and for us, to see the old house in Arkansas empty and packed up and to say goodbye to friends some of whom I avoided because it was too hard to say goodbye. But once we hit the road and finally reached the mountains, we were smiling and ready for our new adventure.
So here we go…onward to Asheville!
The boys play on the last little bit of house left…their little “carpet island” inside the empty home
And we’re off…packed full in two cars!
Poor Patrick the Poodle finds the one place to stretch and sleep.
Welcome to North Carolina! (Yes, Dad, I took this while driving and I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.)
Settling in at the hotel
And drumroll please….our conversation pit! Yep, we bought a 1970s, retro house with blue carpet, blue trim, mirrored and light-up shelving and our very own conversation pit! Cue the Bee Gees! (This looked better in black and white but then you couldn’t enjoy the lovely blue colors.) And a big thanks to our super cool realtor Jamie Turner who showed us around Asheville SEVERAL times, even when he was sick as a dog and ended up in the ER. A HUGE thanks to him! 🙂
And the work begins…notice the foil wallpaper on the kitchen walls. Pretty! And a pain to remove! My parents are moving to Asheville, too, and here my mom patiently helps with the removal. Not fun.
Hanging out in the empty dining room. Check out the bling on the chandelier and the 70s-style built-in speakers. Can’t you just feel the disco vibes?!
And back at the hotel to play in the pool
