While editing photos from Jack and Emily Claire’s proposal at the Biltmore Estate, the images on my screen reminded me of a fairytale. Emily Claire has beautiful, long, red hair and the prettiest smile. Jake is tall and handsome with “boy next door” good looks. Put them both in front of an amazing, architecturally-stunning home like the Biltmore and you can’t help but think of something out of Cinderella or a Disney princess story.
Their outfits were colorful and really stood out with the bright flowers and blue sky. I’m not sure if Jake planned that but his blue shirt perfectly complemented her adorable, skirt and top.
But as most things in the “real world” go, there was a slight glitch in Jake’s plan. He selected the reflecting ponds to the left of the house with plans to propose right after the tour. I found a spot, with my mother in tow so I could more easily blend in as a tourist, and waited. Jake secretly texted that they were almost done. And wouldn’t you know it but the biggest, ugliest tree-trimming machine was right in the way slowly making its way down the hedge bordering the ponds.
I texted this to Jake who calmly led Emily Claire into position as the hedge clipping monster slowly made its way out of the scene. Jake gave me a slight nod and started to do his thing. This, of course, was when the middle-aged man with a camera decided to squat in front of me to photograph the lily pads. I jumped to the side, my mother politely yanked the man out of the way, and the rest went smoothly.
Emily Claire’s expression was precious AND priceless! She lit up as Jake proposed and I captured it all. I love my job! And then surprise, time for an engagement session! This part always takes the new bride-to-be by surprise but Emily Claire handled it beautifully. So here’s to Jake and Emily Claire…
