I love trying new things, events included, and Sunday’s outing was definitely a first. My family and I headed to Highland Brewery in Asheville for the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest celebrating southern cheese. Who knew there was so much to say about cheese?! But set up outside the brewery under tents and canopies was everything that goes into the process of taking cheese from the farm to the table. We even got a cool cheese grater hand stamp when we entered.
There were young goats head-butting and answering my youngest son’s whiny goat call. There was a large goat set up for milking, something I could not convince my boys to do for a photo. I won’t say why. There was bicycle-powered cheese to sample, a grilled cheese cooking competition, and mozzarella-stretching demonstrations throughout the afternoon. And of course there was beer, really, really good beer. (My new favorite – the Imperial Stout, but I digress.)
It was a fun, cheesy afternoon which of course included zero photos of my boys cheesing for MY camera, heaven forbid. But luckily we found a friend there enjoying her goat milk ice cream who didn’t mind one bit when I captured her milk-covered, cheesing grin. (I think I just overdid the dairy dialogue. Thought I could milk it a little more. I’ll stop) Onto the photos!
