If I could only take photos at one place from here on out, I would definitely, without a doubt choose the fair. Or really any amusement park…Disney World, Universal, Dollywood, Dogpatch USA if it was still open. (That was for any Arkansans reading.) The colors, lights, action and of course the people, oh my the people, make it the perfect place for a plethora of pics. (How’s that for alliteration?!)
The fair…the only place where people with questionable dental hygiene can coax you into quickly throwing away a $5 bill by playing one of many shady-looking games to win an often ugly and unnecessary toy. Large, 5-foot, stuffed cob of corn with a menacing grin stitched on? Oh my goodness, I HAVE to have it and here’s $20 so I can try and fail.
The fair…the only place where you’ll strap your children into flimsy balls of steel that were laying in pieces on the ground only a week before and then cheer as they’re hurled into space at a ridiculous rate of speed.
The fair…the only place where you’ll knock out a month of healthy eating with just one serving of deep fried Oreos or blooming onion abyss, leaving your once healthy heart huddled and crying in the corner.
For a photographer in search of a colorful, entertaining photo, the fair is it.
I thought I’d just do a street photography series of the fair, but with all the colors and action, I also ended up with a few that had a more fine art photography feel. And of course I had the lifestyle photos of my crew. So, here’s a little share of our fair day with a bit of all three. Until next year, Mountain State Fair…
