Hungry? Me, too. Always! Which is why Saturday’s food truck event in Asheville was a fun find for feeding my famished family of growing boys and me too, of course.
I stumbled upon an announcement for the Asheville Food Truck Showdown being held downtown beside the Asheville Masonic Temple while looking for a new place to try this weekend, and saw it was going on at that very moment. Perfect timing! We loaded in the car, lucked out with a place to park nearby, and walked over to the event already packed with people and pups. You know this dog-loving city always make a place for the puppies!
The food truck showdown was a great choice for this family whose tastes can vary greatly depending on the mood. Our youngest, who had his heart set on chicken wings which we could not find, settled on a large slice of pepperoni pizza cooked in an oven right inside the truck. The older one chose the barbecue sundae – pulled pork, cole slaw, sauce and a pickle all served together in a bowl – a few trucks over. Hubby went with a bowl of jambalaya and later some empanadas. And I got chicken shawarma and falafel pita wraps. How’s that for variety?!
The showdown included music, children’s activities, puppies for adoption from the Asheville Humane Society (no, we cannot adopt a puppy for the fifth time) and a vote for fan favorite. It was a gorgeous day, windy but gorgeous, and definitely satisfying.
Looking forward to next year!

And yes, it was hard to say no to this sweet face, even after they begged over AND over again!
